OF DRAGON’S TEETH

Lights play across

the lofty crest;

the wildfire brilliant

in silhouetted ancient crags.

The fiery western sky

draws the strength

of lonely mortals

earth-bound below.

Dragons and wraiths;

aged, hideous, withered;

malevolent archaic passions

possess the endless night.

And when they fail,

foredoomed they are,

soft rains fall in gentle veils

on barrows deep

…and dragon’s teeth.
